FIRE crews rushed to the scene of a huge blaze in the early hours of this morning.

After a large volume of calls from the public, five fire engines were sent to the scene on  Lords Fold, Ormskirk Road, Rainford.

Arriving at 12.53am on Wednesday, July 13, firefighters found a large barn on fire.

Informing residents to keep their windows and doors shut, the 10x20 metre farm building was tackled with main branch hoses for a number of hours.

Working through the night to extinguish the fire, the incident was scaled down to three fire engines at around 7am this morning.

Crews continued to check for hot spots and used hose reel jets to damp down the area.
